Course Synopsis

This unit is a requirement for working in buildings. The unit will equip learners with essential knowledge and application skills to play a vital role in a CERT or emergency response team to implement the first responders approach and strategies during an emergency incident in buildings and apply them to their workplace such as:

1. Interpret emergency response legislations and guidelines.
2. Identify fire hazard scenarios and usage of fire protection system in buildings.
3. Demonstrate the use of breathing apparatus according to BA wearer guidelines and entrapment procedures.
4. Assess the emergency situation and conduct fire-fighting to contain fire in high rise buildings.
5. Participate in rescue and evacuation exercise.

Course Objective

After successfully completing this unit, the learner will be equipped with abilities to interpret the necessary legislations and guidelines pertaining to emergency response. Upon completion, learners will be trained to assess an emergency incident and apply applicable response strategies to contain fire in high-rise buildings and properly conduct and execute rescue and evacuation exercise. Learners will be orientated on the usage of fire protection systems in buildings as well as the usage of breathing apparatus as well as essential entrapment procedures.
